5 day online intensive
June 29 – July 3
19-18.45 CEST

Steve Paxton developed Material for the Spine (MFS) beginning in 1986 after contact improvisation as an exploration of the movement possibilities within the muscles surrounding the spine, as well as the connections between the head, pelvis, vertebrae, scapula, feet and hands. This solo practice is supported by specific exercises, body puzzles and ideokinetic imagery.

This online five class series is an introduction to MFS. It can also help the student access the material from Paxton’s web based video platform. Some brief excerpts will be used in class and it is strongly suggested that those attending buy or rent web access.  It is recommended to watch the free introduction before attending the class. Contredanse is offering a two month subscription during the pandemic.

I have been working with contact improvisation since 1996 and MFS with Paxton since 2010. I have been teaching MFS, with Steve’s permission, at Tanzfabrik, Tanzquartier, Independent Dance, Contredanse’s Swimming in Gravity Event, Culturgest’s Drafting Interior Techniques Exhibition, and upcoming I will present at the INTERIOR TECHNIQUES STUDIES seminar, in conjunction with Drafting Interior Techniques Exhibition in Bilbao.

Fee 85 euros for whole series. To register or get more details email us at info@bodycartography.org.

If finances are an issue for you at this time but you would like to participate please email us with details and we can figure out a way to make it happen.
