DKS Tour for the Nasjonel Museet for 8th-10th grade

Welcome to a journey of discovery at the museum that is out of the ordinary. In Blikkfanger, students participate in playful exercises led by the museum’s facilitators. The exercises invite them to experience art in new ways and with many senses.

Theme

We move through halls with art from the 20th century to the present day. We stay in different zones in the museum where it is easy to get an overview and have quiet conversations. The students are divided into smaller groups so that they can examine the art in the collection with good concentration.

Through physical exercises, students are given the opportunity to slow down time, leave the world “out there” and discover details in the works. In this way, new encounters and a new understanding of what art is or can be are created.

Midway through the program, students are given cameras. Through a photography assignment, they help create a tour of artworks they have chosen. At the museum, the classes are guided by professional facilitators. The facilitation is adapted to the needs of the different classes.

The communication has been developed in collaboration with the museum’s youth council for ages 13-16. The somatic part of the communication has been developed in collaboration with Otto Ramstad and Olive Bieringa, BodyCartography Project.

Dissemination program

In the first part of the program, we set aside time for the students to feel welcome, seen, and get to know us. The students are tasked with exploring the exhibition halls in pairs and groups. They are led into the halls where they become familiar with the rooms’ themes and artworks through physical tasks. They are given the opportunity to “see art” with multiple senses such as hearing, smell, and tactility.

In the second part of the program, each group is given an Instax camera. With this, they must take pictures of a work that has caught their eye, and find a word that can go with the picture. After choosing their picture, they can print it directly from the camera.

In the final part, the class gathers and we look at the pictures together. Students are encouraged to share their observations and choices with each other. Then the facilitators collect the photographs and shuffle them like playing cards. A random selection is drawn, forming a final tour with a joint discussion.
